Recruiting Reset: Defensive tackle

Arizona has offered numerous defensive tackles. Read on to see who it has offered and how the Wildcats are doing with each.

Finton Connolly: The Arizona commitment remains solid in his decision. Most felt that schools would wait on Connolly after he was injured last season, but Arizona chose to go the opposite route and it paid off with a commitment. We certainly see Connolly signing with Arizona unless something very unexpected happens.

Kahlil McKenzie: McKenzie is one of Arizona's top targets and at this point the Wildcats have to be happy with their position. He recently released his top 12 and Arizona was second, behind Tennessee. The general thought among some close to De La Salle is that Tennessee is a bit of a smokescreen for Oklahoma and while that may be true, the reality is that there is plenty of time left in this recruitment.

Arizona is recruiting the heck out of McKenzie and it definitely seems to be paying off. There is a good chance he will use one of his five official visits to Arizona and the coaching staff will obviously have a huge opportunity if that happens. It will not be easy by any means, but the Arizona coaching staff feels it has a legitimate chance to land one of the best players in the country.

Tevita Mounga: Arizona offered Mounga pretty early on in the process and the word is that it may have backed off some. In a recent interview, Mounga did not mention Arizona much and admitted he was hearing from others more.

"I'd say that BYU, Colorado, Utah, and WAZZU are on me the hardest right now," he said. "I feel a lot of love from the Colorado coaches, they are really good at communicating with me. I went out to BYU for their Junior Day and that was pretty awesome. But at this stage I am just really open to anyone and everyone that is recruiting me."

Although the Wildcats are not recruiting him as hard as others, the word is that they could have a decent chance if they pick it up because Mounga wants to keep everything wide open. At this point, it would probably be a good idea to keep an eye on Mounga and it would not be a major surprise if we heard more about him down the road.

Bruce Hester: It was somewhat of a surprise when Arizona offered Hester, but the Wildcats are definitely being aggressive here. Hester is probably in line for more offers this summer, but Arizona is in good shape and has to be considered the school to beat as of now. He fits in well with what the coaching staff likes to do and although he wants to take his time, it will be interesting to see if Arizona pushes for a commitment this summer.

Tim Settle: Considered one of the top players in the country, Settle recently released his top 15 and it did not include Arizona. However, he mentioned it as one of the schools he would like to visit and the UA came close to making the top 15. That's led to the coaching staff picking things up and it appears that Settle is open to all options.

"I'll probably narrow it down again in August," Settle said. "I'll probably cut it to a top five or top seven. Tennessee, Alabama and Clemson will most likely make the list. But all the schools have a legitimate shot right now."

We don't really expect Settle to wind up at Arizona, but this could be the case of the Wildcats doing better than people think with an elite prospect.
