Mariscal finds perfect fit

Anthony Mariscal committed to Arizona on Monday. Read on to see why he made that decision and more.

Some football recruits take a while to find the perfect collegiate fit, but 2015 Bakersfield (Calif.) Liberty athlete Anthony Mariscal found it as soon as he stepped on campus.

"There were a bunch of things that I like about Arizona," Mariscal said. "First is the personality of the coaches. Coach Rodriguez and Coach Caponi are awesome.

"I found the more that I talked to them it just seemed like they were my coaches, but also my friends. I genuinely felt that I could talk to them about any and everything. That is a cool thing to have in a coach."

The groundwork for Mariscal's commitment started last year.

"That was the first time I got to campus and just being around the coaches and seeing how football goes about was great," Mariscal said. "These guys are really good coaches and you can tell that the minute you talk to them."

Mariscal will come in as a safety, but has the ability to play numerous positions.

"They like me as a free safety, but they think that I have the flexibility to move all around the secondary and the good thing about them is they play a lot of guys back there," he said.

"It's important for me to continue to get stronger so I give them the flexibility to play anywhere back there."

In addition to the field, Mariscal also has big plans in the classroom.

"I want to take football as far as I can, but getting into a good kinesiology or physical education program is a big priority for me," Mariscal said. "I want to stay in sports long after I'm done playing, and the best way to do that is through the training field."
