Buckeyes nab Giddens
It had been speculated for a little while, but on Friday four-star center Daniel Giddens made it official. The 6-foot-10 center announced his intentions to play for the Ohio State Buckeyes starting in 2015. Giddens made the announcement in front of family and friends, and as expected he selected Ohio State. Ohio State had made Giddens a priority from day one, and with opportunity there for him make an early impact he decided to select the Buckeyes over offers from programs such as Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Indiana, and Kansas. "They have a great environment up there and I love it when I visited," said Giddens of why he chose Ohio State. "I feel like they have the best coaching staff in America, the players have high character, and the fans are great." While Giddens will never be confused with being a big time scorer, he is one of the best rebounders and shot blockers in this class. He will be expected to provide an immediate impact for the Buckeyes with the departure of seniors Amir Williams and Anthony Lee who will anchor the Ohio State frontcourt in the 2014-15 season. About his opportunity to come in right away and get minutes, Giddens said, "I feel like the work I am putting in now will have me ready to play and provide minutes. Myself and Trevor Thompson will be a great frontcourt for Ohio State and we are going to be surrounded by great shooters as well." Giddens is a key cog to what is shaping up as one of the best recruiting classes in the country. Ohio State now has four four-star prospects committed with Giddens, Austin Grandstaff, A.J. Harris, and Mickey Mitchell. This class comes on the heels of a four man class in 2014 that ranked No. 10 overall. So now Ohio State has landed seven prospects in the last two years ranked as a four-star or higher by Scout.com. With the talent coming in to Columbus, Giddens feels it is time for him and his teammates to get Thad Matta some jewelry. "I feel like this group of guys, we all have one goal and that is to get Coach Matta his first national title," said Giddens. "He has been to numerous final fours and we now feel we have the opportunity to give him a national title with the talent we brought in, in my class and 2014 as well. We all are humble and hungry."
