Zimmerman impressed with Miller

Stephen Zimmerman is one of the top players in 2015. Read on for his thoughts on being coached by Sean Miller, his recruitment, and more.

Las Vegas Bishop Gorman center Stephen Zimmerman is one of the best players at his position in the country, but he still likes to see how he stacks up against the competition.

The biggest benefit of things like the LeBron James Skills Academy is to see where you rank against all of these top players,” Zimmerman said. “You hear about rankings all the time and you hear all the big names and stuff and to be able to play against all of these players is good.”

Zimmerman tries not to get too involved with the rankings, but admits that his surroundings make that difficult.

“Everyone talks about them,” he said. “Even if you don’t look at it, you know where you are because everybody tells you.”

The highlight of Zimmerman’s summer may have been winning as a part of the USA team.

“It was amazing to be able to represent my country,” he said. “It was a huge blessing. My parents were there crying after every game and getting a gold medal is amazing.”

In addition, Zimmerman was able to be coached by Sean Miller, who assisted Billy Donovan on the gold medal winning squad.

“I worked individually with Coach Miller,” Zimmerman said. “He came up to me after every game and practice and was helping me with some things and it was pretty cool to learn from him.

“I think he really believes in what I can do. I like how he was constantly telling us to run. We were a very athletic team and obviously Arizona likes to get out, so that fits my playing style.”

Zimmerman is still hearing from the same schools and is in the process of setting up his official visits.

“They all talk to me all of the time,” he said. “I have official visits coming up. I don’t know when and where, my parents know my schedule.

“I want to go to schools I can’t reach. I have taken unofficial visits to UNLV, UCLA, and Arizona just because those are schools that are close and I can afford to go to, the other ones are much harder to get to.”
