Bakersfield (Calif.) Liberty 2015 defensive back Anthony Mariscal wasn’t a kid who wanted to string out his recruitment, so when he found the right fit, he didn’t hesitate to pledge to his dream school.
“It’s been a major relief since I committed,” Mariscal said. “More so than anything else, I can focus on what I need to do.
"It’s every kid’s dream to get recruiting letters and that, but after you know where you want to go it becomes kind of a burden to tell all these different places you’re not interested.
"Now that everyone knows that I’m going to Arizona, I can pretty much tell them that I already have that decision all figured out.”
Mariscal’s fit in the Arizona defense was one of the deciding factors in helping him commit to the University of Arizona.
“They think I can move around a bit back there," Mariscal said. "They think I can be a bandit and play down by the line a little bit and if the situation calls for it I can drop back.
"They think I have the ability to do a little bit of everything and that was what I was looking for in a potential school.”
While Mariscal liked the fit, he wasn’t promised early playing time.
“We didn’t even really talk about that," he said. "That is more than cool with me. I’m going to Arizona because the coaches were more than upfront with me and I wouldn’t even want a promise like that.
"If I’m lucky enough to play early, that is something that I will want to have earned.
“I’m looking forward to watching them this season. It will be fun to envision myself in that defense.”
