Arizona’s recruitment of 2015 Findlay Prep guard Allonzo Trier moved relatively fast when compared to the way that most recruitments play out.
The Wildcats only offered in June and although they became one of the favorites with that offer, there was still some work to be done.
"They are definitely at the top right now," Trier said when offered. "There are some other schools up there with them, but with the success that they have had over the last few years and what they are building there, and the type of coach Sean Miller is, they are definitely up there."
Trier was actually offered with Tyler Dorsey still committed, but seemed unfazed by Arizona’s current guard situation.
"We have already talked about that," he said. "The coaches think that I would be a great fit to come in right away with the things I do. They said that I might be a great replacement piece for someone like Nick Johnson with the things he does."
Even with schools such as Louisville picking up the pace, Trier seemingly remained consistent with when he would be making a decision.
"It's still wide open," Trier said. "My list is pretty long. I have a lot of schools that are recruiting me the hardest right now. I don't have any kind of time table. I just want to make the best decision for me. I will talk to my mom about it a lot."
The only real drama came a few weeks ago when rumors of a Kentucky offer began circulating. While we don’t know what an offer would have meant, it still would have made landing Trier a little more difficult.
"Right after USA trials, Coach Calipari started texting me," Trier said. "He told me he's been watching me a lot this summer and he really likes my game. He didn't get real specific about it, but he told me to keep up the good work, and that he'd be watching me the rest of the summer."
Knowing that the top schools in the country were already recruiting Trier with the possibility of more getting involved, the Arizona coaching staff worked on getting Trier on campus as quietly as possible.
It succeeded when Trier visited this weekend and decided to commit to Arizona and become the third member of its 2015 recruiting class.
