Mounga getting closer

Tevita Mounga continues to look at all of his options. Read on to see what he says about the recruiting process and more.

In an era where many kids spanning various sports want to play more glamorous positions, Murrieta (Calif.) Vista 2015 defensive tackle Tevita Mounga is a breath of fresh air.

“I love taking up space in the middle, and the main thing with me is double-teams.” Mounga said. “I need to be able to fill up two spots so that the guys behind me can get free and go after the ball. If I don’t do that, it allows the other teams to be able to get their players into the linebacking level. “

There are quite a few schools that would like to have Mounga anchoring the middle.

“I have six offers and they are Washington, Washington State, Utah, Brigham Young, Colorado and Arizona," he said. "Obviously, all the west coast schools have different things going for them.

“I’ve visited both the schools in Utah, BYU and Utah, but I would like to get out to the other teams that have offered me.”

Arizona is pushing hard for a visit.

“They said their system is even more reliant on having gap fillers in their defense," Mounga said. "They are always on the look out for those guys and they think that I can get in there early.”

Mounga doesn’t figure to keep his suitors guessing much longer.

“I want to decide sometime during the season," he said. "I have a lot of things going through my head right now and I feel as I’m playing, I will be able to see things a little clearer.”
