Wilson off to fast start

Nick Wilson scored a touchdown in his first career start. Read on to see what he says about that touchdown, moving forward, and more.

Nick Wilson knew that he was going to get some carries in the season opener against UNLV, but even he did not see that level of success coming.

"It was really incredible,” Wilson said. "Words can’t describe how excited I was. I thought I was going to be able to handle it a little bit better and I didn’t think it was going to be as impressive as it was, but it was everything I could imagine.”

Wilson was able to come up with an 85-yard touchdown and not only remembers the play, but the reaction afterwards as well.

"I was tired, I'm not going to lie," Wilson said. "It was pretty incredible. I pressed the "A" gap went through the "A" gap, shot through and it was a footrace from there.

"It was pretty overwhelming. It was kind of hard trying to respond back to everybody, but I thanked everybody, retweeted every comment on Twitter. It was pretty amazing.

"I never usually pay attention to the crowd, but when I ran out of the tunnel and looked into the entire stadium with the ZonaZoo filled up it was pretty overwhelming.”

In addition to thanking the fans, Wilson made sure he thanked his offensive line as well.

"They are the most important piece of the offense to me,” Wilson said. "You can’t go anywhere without them. I thanked them all after my touchdown because you can’t go anywhere without the offensive line.”

There was plenty of speculation about the running backs since Ka’Deem Carey left, but Wilson helped take a step toward putting that speculation to rest.

"I see myself more watching Terris and Jared,” Wilson said. "They have been helping me out tremendously throughout the entire camp and I couldn’t have made it anywhere near as far without them.

"It shows how hard we work. We come out here every day and do what we are supposed to do. I feel like we are executing very well and it shows on the field how successful we are.”

Now attention turns to a UTSA squad that has Wilson’s full respect.

"I've been watching film myself," he said. "They're a pretty good team, solid team, and fundamental. They beat Houston which really surprised me, but it shows that we have to focus in and get ready for a game on Thursday.”
