Brewer looking forward to making plays

Devon Brewer is taking a different path to Arizona than originally anticipated, but is still excited to be a Wildcat. Read on to see what he says about that path, his future at Arizona, and more.

It’s not every recruiting cycle that a program can add three mid-year enrollees with realistic expectations of making a big impact the following season, but that is exactly what’s happening at Arizona.

Ex-Fresno (Calif.) Central East defensive back and 2014 UA signee Devon Brewer is one of those players and is staying focused.

“I’m going to get to Arizona, but it will just be in January instead," Brewer said. "I’m playing here at Milford Academy.

"We’re 4-0 and have a lot of players that are all going hard, but honestly, although I’m focused here, I think about Arizona all the time."

Not only is Brewer enjoying Milford, but watching former and future teammate Nick Wilson succeed has been a pleasure as well.

“This experience has been good," Brewer said. "I’ve become more disciplined and seeing my old teammate Nick (Wilson) doing what he’s been doing has been amazing. Every time I see his runs it’s hard not to think about getting to Arizona.”

Not only is Brewer consistently watching Arizona, but the Wildcat coaching staff is also keeping a close eye on Brewer.

“I talk with them all the time," he said. "Nothing has really changed. I’m just coming in a semester late. I will only be stronger and even more ready to make a quick contribution.”

Brewer is excited to room with a familiar face next year.

“Being with Sharif Williams will be good," Brewer said. "We’ve been boys for quite awhile and we obviously played high school together. We are in pretty much the same situation except he’s just getting healthy and I’m working on the school side.

“We’ve both been watching Arizona and that huge win over California was unreal. Still, you can tell there are some areas where they are going to need some help. A lot of guys are graduating and Sharif and I are going in there looking to make plays.”
