The Wildcats will lose multiple defensive backs after this season, and while there is no shortage of talent in the reservoir, New Berlin (N.Y.) Milford Academy defensive back Devon Brewer figures to be a player capable of contributing early.
“I have a lot of skills in the defensive backfield,” Brewer said. “I’ve put on some strength, so that is another thing I can look at. I’m a better player than I was at this time last season.”
Brewer is excited to take the next step in his football development.
“Oh, I’m going to the right place at Arizona," he said. "I love their defensive system. It lets the defensive back make plays and at that point that’s just where natural athleticism takes over and I’ve got some of that.”
The three-star defensive back has the type of game and frame that figures to translate.
“I’ve got things I have to work on, but I have length and the ability to cut in and out of breaks and I have added on more strength and I’ve gotten better at pressing," he said.
In addition, local pride means a lot to Brewer.
“We’re all representing the Fresno area and we all push each other," Brewer said. "Plus the place where we come from is always bringing more players up the ranks.
