Fresno (Calif.) Central High East has been good to Arizona and with two more prospects about to enroll, things should only get better.
Defensive lineman Sharif Williams has been through a major injury in the past year or so and is now ready to start the next chapter of his life.
He recently visited Arizona for the Territorial Cup and remains confident in his initial choice.
“Just being down there again was great,” Williams said. “It really showed me close it is. Next month I will be an Arizona Wildcat. How cool is that? Watching them this season just really made me think I made the right choice.
“The way the defense has come around and some of the players out there are very impressive. I know they want to have some bigger guys down there if they can. The team can play with anybody in the country and then when I see what Nick is doing it seems even closer.”
Williams is referring to former and future teammate Nick Wilson, who he has been closely watching this season.
“We all talked about playing in college together and to really have that plan come to work has been special," Williams said. "We all knew Nick was capable of big things, but wow, he is playing crazy right now.
“Then the fact that they have been with me the entire time. Arizona really has been great. Before the injury and after. They are happy with how I’m coming along and if they feel that if I’m ready to play next season then I will play."
Arriving in January figures to be a major advantage for Williams.
“I can work with all the team strength coaches, and they know exactly what the coaches need out of me, so I will have good supervision," he said.
"It’s not just about the leg though. I have to keep getting stronger and trying to be in the best shape possible.”
