Arizona steamrolls Michigan

Arizona crushed Michigan on Saturday. Read on for a complete recap of the Wildcats' 80-53 victory.

Before the season, Arizona's game against Michigan was supposed to be one of the harder ones on the schedule.

It turned out to be one of the easiest.

The Wildcats played their most complete game of the season on Saturday to defeat Michigan 80-53 at McKale.

Gabe York scored to open the game, but Zak Irvin made a three. Kaleb Tarczewski and Stanley Johnson then scored before Kameron Chatman made a three. Brandon Ashley responded with a three of his own before Chatman made a free-throw. York and Derrick Walton proceeded to score as Arizona led 11-9 five minutes into the game.

Tarczewski made two free-throws and Johnson made a bucket before making a three. Dusan Ristic then scored as Walton got a basket and Caris LeVert made a three to cut Arizona’s lead to 20-14 with 10:37 left in the half.

Tarczewski scored and LeVert made two free-throws. Rondae Jefferson then made one from the line and Johnson followed with a basket. After a free-throw by Walton, Parker Jackson-Cartwright hit a jumper. Tarczewski then scored and a dunk off a turnover by Johnson gave the Wildcats a 31-17 lead with about four minutes left in the first half.

Johnson scored on a dunk, but Spike Albrecht hit a three. Ricky Doyle then scored and that was matched by Ashley. Doyle made two free-throws and Tarczewski made one of two as a free-throw by Walton put the Wildcats up 36-25 at the half.

Tarczewski made two free-throws to start the half and Ashley scored on a dunk. York then made a three and scored on a floater to force a Michigan timeout with the Wolverines down 45-25 only three minutes into the second half.

Ashley made a free-throw and followed with a basket. After Irvin scored, Hollis-Jefferson made a three. Johnson then scored and Walton made a free-throw. Irvin and Ristic exchanged buckets before Elliott Pitts made a free-throw. LeVert then scored and Pitts did as well, as a basket by Hollis-Jefferson put Arizona up 60-33 with about 11 minutes left.

Irvin made a three and Doyle scored to give the Wolverines some momentum, but Jackson-Cartwright got in the lane and York made a three. Tarczewski and Johnson then scored and York hit a three after a bucket by Doyle, as the Wildcats took a 72-40 lead with just over seven minutes remaining.
