Wildcats back in the win column

Arizona got back in the win column by defeating Utah on Thursday night. Read on for a complete recap of the Wildcats' 68-54 win.

Needing to bounce back after losing to Oregon State, Arizona put together a balanced performance to defeat Colorado 68-54 Thursday night at McKale.

Askia Booker scored first and Kaleb Tarczewski matched. Wesley Gordon then made a three as Tarczewski got another bucket. A three by Booker proceeded to put Colorado up 7-4 five minutes into the game.

Booker made a jumper and Elliott Pitts got on the board with a three. Stanley Johnson made two free-throws and Brandon Ashley scored. Tarczewski and Johnson then both got dunks to force a Colorado timeout with the Wildcats up 15-9 with 10:11 left in the first half.

Booker made a three before Johnson scored. After a free-throw by Tarczewski, Thomas scored. Johnson then scored again, but a three by Booker forced Sean Miller to call timeout with the Buffs within three.

Tre’Shaun Fletcher scored and Parker Jackson-Cartwright responded with a three. Booker then made a jumper and Gordon made a free-throw. A basket by Ashley gave Arizona a 25-22 lead with 3:52 remaining in the first half.

Johnson made two free-throws and Ashley picked up a three-point play. After a three by Pitts, Johnson got another bucket. However, Booker made a three at the end of the half as the Wildcats led 35-25.

Johnson scored to start the second half and Hopkins did the same. After a three by Booker, Hopkins scored again. McConnell and Johnson both scored and Tarczewski got a three-point play, but a basket by Hopkins cut the Wildcats’ lead to 44-34 with 15:39 left.

Booker hit a jumper and added two free-throws soon after. McConnell made a three, but Thomas and Hopkins both scored to bring the Buffs to within 47-42 with 11:21 remaining in the second half.

Pitts made a three and McConnell added one of his own. Xavier Talton then scored, but Johnson and Hollis-Jefferson did as well as the Wildcats went up 13.

Booker made a jumper and Tarczewski added two free-throws before he made a basket. Booker then made a three to cut Arizona’s lead to 61-49 with about five minutes left.
