Wildcats make statement

Arizona defeated Utah 69-51 on Saturday. Read on for a complete recap of the Wildcats' victory.

Arizona put on its best display of the season as it defeated Utah 69-51 Saturday at McKale.

The game started with Delon Wright getting a quick four points and Sean Miller called timeout two minutes into the game.

Brandon Ashley scored first for Arizona, but Wright and Brandon Taylor made a three to put the Utes up 10-2 with 14:17 remaining in the first half.

T.J. McConnell scored and Jakob Poeltl did as well. McConnell and Dusan Ristic then both got a bucket to cut the Utah lead to 12-8 with 11:27 left in the half.

Taylor made a three and Rondae Jefferson got two free-throws. Brekott Chapman made two from the line before McConnell made a jumper. Tarczewski made two free-throws and Poeltl scored again.

Tarczewski did the same as Chapman made two of three free-throws. McConnell proceeded to make a jumper and Ashley added two free-throws to bring the Wildcats within one.

Ashley scored and Taylor responded with a three. McConnell then got in the lane for a layup. Tarczewski went to the line and made one of two to give the Wildcats a one-point lead.

Ashley and Wright exchanged baskets before Ashley scored again. McConnell then made a jumper to force a Utah timeout and go into the half with a 31-26 lead.

Wright started the half with a free-throw and McConnell made a jumper. Taylor them made his third three-pointer of the night before Tarczewski and Poeltl exchanged baskets.

Stanley Johnson got on the board with a three and followed with a layup to put Arizona up 40-32 with 15:44 left in regulation.

Johnson scored again and made two free-throws. After a basket by Ristic, Chapman made a three. However, a jumper by McConnell gave Arizona a 48-35 lead.

Johnson scored and made two free-throws before Jordan Loveridge made a three. Ashley then scored, as did Hollis-Jefferson. Loveridge proceeded to make two free-throws and then made a three.

Johnson was fouled and made one of two free-throws to bring Arizona’s lead to 57-43 with 7:58 left.

Chris Reyes made a free-throw and Loveridge hit a three. Johnson then scored two consecutive baskets before Pitts got a layup to put the Wildcats up 63-47 with about four minutes left.
