Wildcats avenge only Pac-12 loss

Arizona avenged its only Pac-12 loss of the season with a 57-34 victory over Oregon State on Friday. Read on for a complete recap of the win.

Arizona held Oregon State to 29 percent shooting and the second lowest point total in McKale history as it won 57-34 on Friday night.

Kaleb Tarczewski scored first, but Gary Payton II and Daniel Gomis got on the board and the Beavers led 4-2 about five minutes into the game.

Rondae Hollis-Jefferson got a three-point play and T.J. McConnell nailed a three. Jarmal Reid then got a basket and Malcolm Duvivier scored after a free-throw by Gabe York as Arizona led 9-8 with 10:58 left in the half.

Brandon Ashley got a dunk in the middle of the lane and Stanley Johnson scored his first basket. However, Duvivier made a three and Payton scored to tie the game at 13.

York made a three and Ashley went one of two from the line to put the Wildcats up 17-13 with 3:49 remaining in the first half.

Hollis-Jefferson got a three-point play, Tarczewski scored, and Johnson added a bucket to put Arizona up 24-13 at the half.

Olaf Schaftenaar made two free-throws to begin the half and Gomis scored soon after. Elliott Pitts scored his first points of the game on a three-point play and followed with a traditional three to put the Wildcats up 30-17 six minutes into the half.

Reid scored and Cheikh Ndiaye did the same. Ashley then made a jumper from the free-throw line before Tarczewski made two free-throws to keep Arizona’s lead at 13.

Ashley scored and Shaftenaar made a three. Ashley responded with a three-point play before Reid hit a free-throw. McConnell and Johnson proceeded to score to put Arizona up 43-25 with 7:28 left.

Schaftenaar made another three and McConnell got a spinning layup, as Payton scored the next time down court. Ashley scored in the paint and Hollis-Jefferson got a three-point play to give Arizona a 50-30 lead with 3:40 left and seal the deal.
