The top 2016 Tucson high school football prospect figures to be Salpointe Catholic defensive lineman Justin Holt. Space eaters like Holt are in short supply on the current Arizona roster, but there are other programs that would like to acquire his services as well.
“I’ve been to UCLA on an unofficial visit, but it was really just my dad and me that took everything in,” Holt said. “It was a good time, though.
“I’ve obviously been to Arizona a ton of times because I live right down the street.”
The Rodriguez coaching staff has made a solid impression on Holt.
“Those were a couple tough losses at the end of the season, but, overall, I think things are going in the right direction," he said. "They need guys like me and they’ve done a good job with the guys from my school.
“I also have family that played there, so there is a ton to like about Arizona.”
Despite the many advantages Arizona possesses, Holt will plenty of options.
“Arizona is obviously recruiting me hard as is UCLA and now Oregon and USC, basically a lot of schools on the West Coast," Holt said.
Holt plans on taking more visits in the coming months, and, while he knows what he is looking for in the ideal program, there is no timetable for a decision.
“I want to play for a school has a player-friendly coach and has the kind of defensive scheme that fits me.
“This spring will be really big for me as far as getting better and figuring out where I might go to school. I will know a lot more then, because I don’t really have any idea right now when I might decide.”
