Wildcats fall short

Wisconsin's offense was just too much on Saturday, as the Badgers defeated Arizona 85-78. Read on for a full recap.

For the second year in a row, Arizona couldn't get past Wisconsin.

The Badgers' offense was too much Saturday at the Staples Center, as the Wildcats lost 85-78.

Frank Kaminsky started the game with a three-point play and added two free-throws T.J. McConnell put Arizona on the board, but Sam Dekker scored and Josh Gasser hit a three to force Sean Miller to call timeout with the Wildcats down 10-2 four minutes into the game.

Stanley Johnson got a bucket and followed it with two free-throws. Kaminsky then scored, as did Parker Jackson-Cartwright as the Badgers led 12-8 with 11:25 left in the half.

Branson Ashley scored and Dekker matched. Ashley then got two free-throws and a basket to tie the game at 14.

Bronson Koenig got a three and Kaleb Tarczewski made his first bucket. Nigel Hayes then did the same as the Badgers grabbed a three-point lead with 6:57 remaining in the first half.

Dekker made a free-throw before Tarczewski got a basket. Kaminsky and Johnson exchanged hoops and Hollis-Jefferson and Kaminsky did the same. Gabe York then hit a three and Kaminsky scored to put the Badgers up 26-25.

Hollis-Jefferson made two free-throws and then scored a bucket. Duje Dukan made a free-throw, but Tarczewski hit two of his own.

Dukan then made one more from the line and Hollis-Jefferson hit a jumper. Two free-throws from Dekker cut Arizona’s lead to 33-30 at the half.

Kaminsky started the half with a three and Hollis-Jefferson made a free-throw. Dekker then nailed a three and a three-point play by Kaminsky put Wisconsin up 39-34.

Kaminsky made two free-throws and Hollis-Jefferson scored. Dukan made a three before McConnell hit two free-throws.

Hollis-Jefferson made two free-throws and McConnell got a layup. Dekker made a three and York got a layup to cut the Wisconsin lead to 47-44 with 14:11 left.

Ashley scored and Dekker made a three. Hollis-Jefferson got a basket, but Koenig made two free-throws. Hayes then hit a three and Kaminsky scored to force a timeout up nine.

Tarczewski got a three-point play, but Hayes nailed another three. Gasser then got a layup and McConnell made two free-throws. Kaminsky made two as well, as McConnell got a jumper.

Kaminsky scored and Tarczewski made two free-throws. Gasser then hit one to give the Badgers a 67-57 lead with about six minutes left.

York made two free-throws and Gasser hit a three. York then made a free-throw to cut the Wisconsin lead to ten.

McConnell made two free-throws and Kaminsky then made one. Ashley made two, but Dekker got a three-point play that basically sealed it for the Badgers, putting them up 74-64 with 3:19 left.

Ashley made two free-throws and Gasser made one. McConnell hit a jumper and after a free-throw by Koenig, a three by York brought the Wildcats to within 76-71 with 2:03 remaining.

Dekker hit a three out of a timeout and Hollis-Jefferson came back and scored quickly. Wisconsin then got two free-throws from Dekker to go up 81-73. Ashley answered with a three-point play, but it wasn’t enough.
