What to Watch: Spring Game

Arizona's Spring Game is on Friday. Read on for a closer look at what to keep an eye on.

Arizona's Spring Game is on Friday night and there are plenty of questions as we get our final look at the team for a few months.

How are the junior college players progressing?

Anthony Fotu and Paul Magloire came to Arizona with high expectations and this will be one of the few opportunities to see them in game action or at least close to it. Arizona lost Dan Pettinato and Tra'Mayne Bondurant and the ideal situation is that both Fotu and Magloire and step into those roles and make sure there is little drop off.

It's natural for junior college to start slowly in this defense, but with limited viewing, fans would like to see these players at least show a glimpse of what is to come this season.

What's the quarterback competition behind Anu Solomon?

It's no secret that the job is Solomon's. However, there is a saying that the second quarterback on the team is usually the most popular. Jerrard Randall has been impressive this spring and it is apparent that he has matured a lot. He still has some technical things to work on, but his attitude has been great.

Brandon Dawkins is still progressing and this is the first time he has really been able to get some competitive throws in. When it comes down to natural talent, Dawkins may be the best option Arizona has. However, that's not all that goes into being a quarterback. If Anu goes down, does Dawkins get a look or does it go right to Randall? Friday's performance may help point us in the right direction.

How does Davonte Neal look?

Neal did not come close to meeting the hype that he entered Arizona with. You can argue that expectations were too high, but even if there were no expectations, his numbers were not very impressive. This helped contribute to a position change and it appears to be a permanent move.

Rich Rodriguez believes Neal is competing for a starting spot at corner and it's not just smoke. Friday will give us a look at what Neal brings to the table on the defensive side of the ball and it is one of the closer competition to keep an eye on in the next few months.

How deep is Arizona?

We've heard there is increased depth, but now is the time to see it. The starters probably aren't going to get a ton of run on Friday, which will give us a close look at the rest of the team. Will they look like back ups or will there be some impressive performances? We won't learn everything on Friday, but it will give us a solid look at some of the younger guys.
