Tempe (Ariz.) Corona Del Sol sophomore Alex Barcello has emerged as one of the top point guards in the west for his class.
He currently offers from Arizona, Virginia, Saint Mary’s, New Mexico, Grand Canyon, Colorado, Washington State, Creighton and a host of Pac-12 schools have also expressed interest.
"I’m wide open right now,” Barcello said. “I’m looking for the best overall fit that can help accomplish my academic and basketball goals.”
It's no surprise that Barcello is getting national attention, especially when you consider what he accomplished last season.
“I knew we had something special from day one,” Barcello said of winning a state title. “I knew that once we started playing open gym, and mixing the new guys in with the returning players our chances to be great were high.
“The glory and praise goes to God. Without him, we don’t have this great of a season and I’m grateful for everything.”
Barcello is looking for a system that can fit his high-octane style of play and allows him to utilize his outside shooting ability.
“I really want to play in an up-tempo offense,” Barcello said. “I prefer that style of basketball.
"I also want to find a program that emphasizes defense because everything starts on that side of the ball.”
There is still a lot of time in Barcello’s recruitment and he plans to be patient with the process and focus on improving his game.
“Right now I don’t have any visit dates or a list of favorites,” he said. “I’m looking to improve over the summer and get ready for another state title run.”
