Lightfoot excited about Arizona offer

Arizona recently offered 2016 Gilbert Christian center Mitch Lightfoot. Read on for his thoughts on the offer, his overall recruitment, and more.

Although Gilbert Christian 2016 center Mitch Lightfoot grew up in Tucson going to University of Arizona basketball games, his game didn’t take off until he moved out of the city.

“I loved my time in Tucson, but at Gilbert Christian everything is about hoops and the practices are just so intense because everybody is looking to prove themselves and show how good they are,” Lightfoot said. “The AAU team the Arizona Power is another team that has really helped my game.

"We go to all the tournaments and play the best teams. It seems like every guy is going D-I. That’s where I have learned about a lot of the things I need to work on, like my strength and finishing around the hoop.”

Lifting weights has become a major part of Lightfoot’s life.

“The main thing I’m looking to do right now is put on weight and I have a system that is going to do that, plus I get to play against some of the best players in the country with my high school and Arizona Power schedule," he said.

Many of the best programs in the country have become interested in Lightfoot over the past few months.

“It’s been a total blessing to get offers from places like Kansas and to be going on visits to places like Stanford," Lightfoot said. "ASU is another school on that list, but to get an offer from a place like Arizona was absolutely the best.

"I’ve been going to their games forever and with the way Coach Miller has the team playing, it is just an honor."

The offer from Arizona came after Lightfoot made a visit to campus.

“The visit was fun and from a talent perspective Arizona obviously gets the best," Lightfoot said. "It’s a place that isn’t hard to imagine playing at.

"Everything from the facilities to campus and players was just big time. I’m certainly very interested.”
