Recruiting attention is starting to pick up for 2016 Riverside (Calif.) Community College linebacker A.J. Hotchkins and he isn’t surprised why.
“I would say the best part to my game right now is defending the run," Hotchkins said. "I get that a lot. I like getting in there on the defensive side and matching up some bigger blockers.
"I’ve always loved the physical part of the game and I think people kind of see that.”
Many schools have noticed that mindset.
“I don’t have an offer from Arizona or Oregon, but both have sent me a lot of stuff and they’ve let me know they will be watching to see how I continue to get better," Hotchkins said.
"Those are two places that I’m really interested in. I’m also hearing from California, Washington State and Nevada. I just heard from the Nevada coach and he thinks I’m good.”
As of now, there is only one school that Hotchkins will visit.
“Washington State has recruited me pretty hard," he said. "I’m going to get up there and see what’s going on. There isn’t anything else ready to go.”
Hotchkins wants to take as many visits as possible.
“I’d like to find which schools are interested in me," he said. "That way I can get to those places and look for the best connection with the coaches and scheme. I just want to take that next step if possible.
“I’m certainly not complaining, but it would be good if I could go into the season already knowing where I’m going to play and already knowing what my role will be. If that doesn’t happen I will still find the best place for me.”
