Ernie Sears is quickly emerging as one of the best perimeter prospects in the west for 2017.
The 6-foot-4 Mission Hills (Calif.) Bishop Alemany guard hasn't seen too much activity in his recruitment, but he expects the process to pick up soon.
"I've been offered by New Mexico State and Grand Canyon," Sears said. "Arizona and some other big programs have been in contact with me, but no official offers yet."
Sears attributes his focus on defense as one of the main reasons schools have expressed interest.
"I get after it on defense and not many players match my hustle," he said. "I still want to improve my jumper and I want to become a better ball handler."
Arizona and Cal are two schools Sears has his sights on and plans to visit.
"I want to get out and see Arizona," Sears said. "My dad went to Cal and I know their program is on the rise, so I want to look at them, too.
"I also want to look at USC and UCLA. The Pac-12 has a lot of great schools."
As of now, there is no timetable on Sears' recruitment.
"It is too early to think about that, but I'll probably wait until my senior year of high school," he said.
