Little Rock (Ark.) Parkview 2016 pass rusher Markell Utsey has the raw physical tools that intrigues college recruiters, and he intends to get much better quickly.
“I got a long way to go,” Utsey said. “I would say the strengths to my game are my ability to stop the run and I’m athletic enough to do a lot of different things and play in a lot of different schemes.
“I feel I’m good as a pass rusher, but I’m always working on hand techniques and ways to get better in that regard.”
Numerous schools would love to acquire Utsey’s services.
“The schools that stick out the most are North Carolina, Arkansas and Memphis," Utsey said. "All those coaches think that I can come in and make a big impact for them.
“Arizona is also on me and I’m going to visit there July 18th, I believe. I’m looking forward to it. I want to see how everyone works together and how the coaches are off the field. It will be an important visit as far as where we go from here.”
Regardless of how the visit goes, don’t expect a decision anytime soon.
“I would say I will decide after my senior season," Utsey said. "I really do have a lot to think about. I’ve got a bunch of offers and I am getting more all the time.
"I don’t want to leave any teams out, but at the same it’s getting to the point where I need to know who is serious and who isn’t.
“Besides the football aspect I also want to see which schools have good classes where I could specialize in something like physical therapy or coaching or something like that.”
