There aren't many high school prospects in the country that have gained more traction in recruiting circles the past few months than Findlay Prep guard Markus Howard and the Arizona native isn’t that surprised.
“I knew the past months and this summer was going to be very big for me,” Howard said. “I was trying to make it so my game was as refined as possible. That included everything. Dribbling, shooting, and passing.
“I was confident though because I knew I played really well against teams in Phoenix that were really good. At Findlay, I’m hoping that there is more of that. That’s really why I came up here.
"Instead of being able to play against some super good players now and then I get to play against the best players all the time.”
Playing for his country has further driven home that point.
“This has been a total blast," Howard said. "Not only playing for my country, but being able to put up numbers and help my country win.”
Howard's play has gotten Sean Miller's attention.
“Getting the Arizona offer was big," Howard said. "Everyone in the state knows the history of the school.
"Since Coach Miller has been there they’ve gotten back into that point where they’re one of the best teams in the country and are controlling the Pac-12."
With the increased attention, Howard will take his time through the recruiting process.
“I don’t have any unofficials set up, but that will come in time. I’m not in any hurry to make a choice. A lot of the attention I’ve been getting has been somewhat overwhelming.
"I basically want to see who is all interested in me and then I’ll start breaking everything down. I don’t see myself deciding before my senior season. That could change I guess, though.”
