Upper Marlboro (Md.) DeMatha Catholic swingman D.J. Harvey will be one of the most closely watched 2017 recruits during the summer evaluation period and according to his father, versatility is a big reason why.
“D.J.’s main strength is his ability to a do a little bit of everything,” said D.J.'s father Darren Harvey. “He can really guard 1-3 or 4 and he can play those positions well.
"He’s got a lot of work to do, but trust me he’ll get there. He’s the type of kid we don’t have to push him to get into the gym. He wants to go on his own and we work with him from there.”
Although Sean Miller is out of the country, the Wildcat coaching staff was able to give Harvey a tour of the campus on Tuesday.
“The Arizona visit went well," Darren said. "He was able to chat with the assistant coaches and get a tour of the school.
"It was a little more difficult to tell though because Coach Miller wasn’t there, but, still, you can tell the program is a place that is always going to be getting good players."
Harvey’s recruitment figures to be a drawn out battle that won’t end anytime soon.
“We haven’t given any thought to when and where D.J. will decide," Darren said. "It’s still really early in the game and he’s going to basically have his choice of schools around the country. At some point we’ll start to narrow the list down, but that’s a ways off.”
