Norman (Okla.) North point guard Trae Young is one of the best players in the 2017 class and showed why at the recent Nike Basketball Academy.
“The main thing I tried to do is to take as much as I can learning from the NBA guys,” Young said.
“Getting to compete against some of the best players in the country is going to make me better and the experience is fun.”
The 6-foot-1 four-star was recently offered by Duke, but is not ready to name it as among the favorites.
“Duke speaks for itself,” Young said. “It is a big offer, but I am not going to compare it to any other schools right now.”
Another school that has been heavily involved with Young is Arizona.
“Arizona has been in contact with me,” he said. “Coach Miller is in Greece right now, but we have spending a lot of time talking. He texts me when he is headed over there and practicing, so that is good.
“Since they started recruiting me they have been aggressive. I know Coach Miller has been busy, so for him to take the time out to text and call me and let me know I am a priority is big.”
As Young listens to each school recruiting him, he knows what the focus will be on.
“I am looking at where I fit in the most,” he said. “I look at everything. The fan base, what the campus is like, just overall the feel I have for that school.”
Young currently has plans to visit two schools, but won’t be in any rush to decide.
“I am more than likely visiting Arizona in August right before school starts and then Texas here pretty soon, but nothing official planned,” he said.
“I will probably end up cutting my list down before the season starts, but I am taking my time and enjoying the process.”
