Bailey has decisions to make

Since opening up his recruitment, Brendan Bailey has heard from schools throughout the country. Read on for an update on his recruitment and more.

SUWANEE, Ga. - American Fork (Utah) shooting guard Brendan Bailey is considered to be one of the top players in the west and has enjoyed his hectic summer.

“Overall my summer has been going really well,” Bailey said. “I have picked up a lot of offers and playing on a good team, so it’s good.

“I am trying to improve on getting to the basket. I am known as a shooter, but I want to be known as a scoring wing. I know I have to be able to get to the basket and free-throw line as well.”

Once an Arizona State commit, the 2016 four-star was taken aback a bit by the attention he received once he opened up his recruitment.

“As soon as I decommitted I was getting calls right away, so it was crazy in the beginning,” he said.

“Now the coaches are finalizing which ones are talking to me. No new ones have popped up in the last couple of weeks, so it has slowed down a bit.”

There are a handful of schools that have emerged as the most aggressive in Bailey’s recruitment.

“The schools I am hearing from the most are San Diego State, Gonzaga, Utah, Marquette, Arizona, Arizona State, and Michigan,” he said.

“They are trying to get you to go to their school, so they are always nice to you. However, all of these guys are being real and they tell me I have to earn my spot, which is the right thing.”

Arizona has picked it up a bit since Mark Phelps joined the coaching staff.

“I have been talking with Coach Phelps and Coach Miller a lot,” Bailey said. “I really like it at Arizona.

“It is a great program and a great school. They are always among the top teams in the country also.”

With so many positive things to say about each school, how Will Bailey separate them?

“Some of it is location because Utah is right in my backyard and then a place like UConn is all the way across the country,” he said. “Mostly location and also some of the coaching staffs are different and then style of play.”

As of now, Bailey intends to take his time with a decision not only one which school to attend, but also on taking a mission after high school.

“I have visited San Diego State and UConn,” Bailey said. “I am planing on visiting Gonzaga and Marquette, but those are not finalized.

“I am going to take my time. My mission right now is not 100 percent, but I am planning on doing it. It’s just not 100 percent.”
