Utsey wants to make right decision

Markell Utsey was on campus this past weekend. Read on to see how he enjoyed his visit, the next step in his recruitment, and more.

Little Rock (Ark.) Parkview 2016 defensive tackle Markell Utsey has been a priority recruit for some time now and Arizona only helped its chances this past weekend.

“The visit was good,” Utsey said. “Arizona is the school that is at the top of the list for me. I’ve been recruited by a lot of schools, but Arizona is doing it really well.

“They are trying to get bigger along the defensive line and when you play the responsibilities that the tackles do, it’s a big deal. It seems like I could probably play early.”

Despite the strong interest, Utsey isn’t ready to commit.

“Like I said, Arizona is at the top of the list, but when I make this decision I have to be one hundred percent in it," Utsey said. "You see a lot of guys commit, but it’s not really a commit.

"I’m not going to commit and then start looking at other places. I’m all in once I make that commitment.”

As of now, Utsey has no other visits set up.

“Arizona has given me a lot to think about and I don’t really have any other thing to do from here," he said. "The program pretty much has what I’m looking for. I’ve got to continue to talk with the people around me and make the right choice.”

Arizona and Utsey believe he can make a big impact at the next level.

“Wherever I go I’m going to work hard and make it to the point where the coach has to put me on the field," Utsey said. "I’m a true defensive tackle. That’s what I do.

"I’m always one of the biggest guys in the field and I enjoy that constant physical contact. It’s the game I play and I’m lucky that I have the chance to continue to play next season.”
