For 2016 Long Beach City College defensive back London Iakopo, Monday’s commitment was a long time in the making.
“I talked with my parents after the visit and I just wanted to go ahead and get it out of the way,” Iakopo said. “For a long time Arizona was the school that was on me the most.
"In recent weeks that was especially the case. Places backed off me recently, but not Arizona.”
That faith was rewarded on Monday.
“The coaches were ecstatic when I called them and informed them of my decision," Iakopo said. "Coach Rodriguez and Dudek and the entire crew were just really happy that I made my decision.
"You could hear the excitement in their voices. They basically told me to just work my butt off in the meantime and when I get to campus be ready.”
Iakopo is also bringing reinforcements with him.
“I had a good feeling Josh Allen was going to become a Wildcat," he said. "He knows that I really wanted him to come to play here, but it was still his choice. When he pulled the trigger it was obviously a cool thing.”
Right now, football is all that is on Iakopo’s mind.
“I just love football, man," he said. "I’m blessed that I have this ability to play Division I college football.
"The coaches want me to come in and compete for a starting spot. They lose some guys in the secondary and they’re looking to replace them with quality, experienced players.”
