Arizona is continuing its attempt to build on the 2016 class and one of the top priorities is currently within the state.
Gilbert Christian forward Mitch Lightfoot has seen his recruitment take off and is enjoying every second of it.
“I thought I was going to do well, but I didn’t know I was going to make that big of a splash,” Lightfoot said. “I am enjoying and embracing it.
“I bring energy and the intangibles. I do the things that nobody else wants to do and I think that is why schools like me.”
Although Lightfoot’s recruitment is national, most of the attention he is receiving comes from the Pac-12.
“Arizona, Kansas, Stanford, Utah, Cal, and Arizona State are recruiting me the hardest,” he said.
“You separate them by taking official visits. Everyone’s pitch is going to be the best they can give you and they are all really good, so it is kind of hard to figure out what’s what.”
Lightfoot has already taken one official visit and has two more in mind.
“Stanford was awesome,” he said. “Being my first official, they wined and dined me and they did really well. They showed why Stanford is Stanford.
“I want to visit Arizona and Kansas officially and the rest are to be determined.”
Being from Arizona, Lightfoot is trying not to get too caught up in the pressure to stay home.
“Obviously people in Arizona want me to stay in-state, but I am going to go where I fit and I am going to go where it is the best fit for me,” he said.
If Arizona has its way, Lightfoot will choose the Wildcats.
“My relationship with Arizona is awesome,” Lightfoot said. “Coach Miller is close to my family because we lived down there before and knew him as a family friend. He is a good guy, up tempo, and I really enjoy that.”
