Arizona is looking for its first commitment for the 2016 class and the coaching staff wouldn't mind it coming from Gilbert Christian 2016 post Mitch Lightfoot.
Lightfoot just finished up a whirlwind recruiting weekend with some of the best programs in the country trying to impress the high energy center.
“I had in-homes with Arizona, Kansas and Stanford recently,” Lightfoot said. “Arizona thinks I can come in and play soon because they’re losing guys and they need somebody who will come in and play hard and get ready to play."
The Jayhawks have a similar pitch and Lightfoot is scheduled for an official this week.
“Kansas is like Arizona," he said. "They have so many good players and the changeover happens all the time. They like the way I play and I will be taking a visit there this week."
Lastly, Stanford continues to push its educational value.
“With Stanford, they talked about basketball obviously, but there is also the allure that if I go there and get a degree, I will be set up for life," Lightfoot said. "I really will.
Lightfoot would still like to announce his collegiate destination by early October.
“I’m getting to the point where I know what I will do," he said. "I just need to be sure of a few things, but I know how fortunate I am to be in the situation where I can play at basically the school that I want to."
Despite having to choose a college, Lightfoot is making sure he gives his high school the attention it deserves.
"I’ve come a long way in the past couple seasons and while I’m super excited to get to college, I still want to focus in on winning the state title," he said.
"Going out like that, even though we lost a few guys, would mean everything and it would set the stage for the next part of my career.”
