Although Gilbert Christian 2016 post Mitch Lightfoot is holding off on announcing his college destination for a month or so, common thought seems to indicate two schools at or near the top of the list for his services.
“To have two schools like Arizona and Kansas recruiting me is unreal.” Lightfoot said. “These are the two teams I rooted for coming up and they are obviously two of the very best teams in the country.
“I have a strong connection with Kansas as everyone knows. Even though I’m not in Kansas I have a very strong bond with the program. I root for them whenever they play. They always have good posts and they have a coach who has a great track record with big men.”
Arizona is pushing just as hard for Lightfoot.
“I was at the football game Saturday and it was really fun," he said. "Obviously, the game didn’t end the way we wanted, but the place was rocking.
"I was kind of doing my own thing with my friends and my parents were sitting with the coaches. They think the world of Coach Miller and we’ve had a relationship with him for a long time, so that’s good."
Lightfoot has a good idea as to why schools so highly regarded want him to join their program.
“I think these schools like me because they know I will give it my all and that I’m a good guy to play with," he said.
"Even though I’m at Gilbert Christian and we lost a few players, they will see that I’m going to do everything in my power to make sure that we can get back and compete at the highest level against anyone.”
Expect a decision before October is over.
“Yeah, we’re getting to the point where I’m about to pull the trigger and make a decision," Lightfoot said. "I have a pretty good idea of what is about to happen and it’s just about making sure everything is ready to go.”
