Rich Rodriguez addresses coaching rumors

Arizona head coach Rich Rodriguez addressed the numerous coaching rumors on Monday.

It seems that it is inevitable that Rich Rodriguez’s name will be brought up with nearly coaching coach vacancy and that latest is Virginia Tech.

Only Monday, Rodriguez was asked about his name in the rumor mill.

“It’s all just rumors and speculation,” Rodriguez said. “I don’t think anybody is getting called.

“The speculation on message boards and rumor sites is speculation for everybody, not just me. It normally happens around the last week or two around the regular season anyway.”

Rodriguez also notices that the coaching carousel is moving a bit earlier than it normally does.

“It’s a lot earlier in the process,” Rodriguez said. “It usually happens right after the last game. I don’t know if there is a snowball effect where everybody wants to get in the game earlier, but I don't ever remember it being this early this soon.”

It also doesn’t help that fans and administration don’t have the patience they once did.

“It used to be that you had four, five, six years to build your program and now the patience is a lot less,” Rodriguez said. “Three is the new five and it almost feels like the NFL, sometimes less than that.

“Sometimes there are a lot of circumstances that go into why you don’t have success right away, but most fans want it to happen right now. That’s just the way that things are.
