On Wednesday morning, Arizona learned the news that former Wildcat Michael Wright had been found dead of suspicious circumstances at the age of 35.
Before getting into discussing the season opener against Pacific, Arizona head coach Sean Miller took a few moments to honor Wright.
“On a day where there is a lot of excitement looking forward to our season opener on Friday and obviously the early signing period in college basketball, the news of Michael Wright is devastating,” Miller said.
“It certainly affects our basketball program. I know a lot of his teammates and the former players and coaches when something like that happens at such a young age and you don’t have all he answers, you feel horrible.”
Wright’s former teammates took to Twitter on Wednesday to express their sadness at Wright’s passing.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to Michael Wright’s family and really our family as a basketball program, all of those that played with him,” Miller said.
“Teammates at this level are almost like brothers and when you lose somebody it is certainly something that is heartfelt across the board.”
