It certainly wasn't pretty, but Arizona defeated an overmatched Northwestern State team 61-42 Sunday at McKale.
Zeek Woodley scored to open the game and Gabe York made a three. Kaleb Tarczewski then went one of two from the line and Allonzo Trier scored to put the Wildcats up 8-2 at the media timeout.
Woodley scored again, but Dusan Ristic made two free-throws and Justin Simon got on the board to put the Wildcats up 12-4 with 11:15 left.
Trier made two free-throws and Matt Killian then scored. Mark Tollefsen got a bucket, but Ishmael Hall answered.
Ristic and Trier scored again, as did Lane. York then hit a three from the corner and a bucket from Woodley had Arizona up 23-12 with 6:53 left in the first half.
Tarczewski and Ristic scored before Woodley made two free-throws. Bailey Walker then hit a three, but a basket by Ristic put Arizona up 29-17 with 2:58 remaining in the half.
Woodley and York exchanged baskets before Walker scored. Tarczewski then got a basket and two free-throws by Trier put Arizona up 34-21 at the half.
Tollefsen and Tarczewski scored to start the half, but two free-throws by Woodley, a three by Reginald Kissoonial and another bucket by Woodley had the Demons within 10 at the media timeout.
Allen and Hall scored before York did as well. Lane then got a basket, but a three by York gave the Wildcats a 45-32 lead with 10:21 left.
Lane and Pitts exchanged baskets before York made two free-throws. Sabri Thompson also made two, but a three by York extended the lead to 52-36.
Tollefsen scored and Hall hit two free-throws, as a three by York has Arizona up 57-38 with 3:54 remaining.
