Despite a late run by Arizona State, Arizona did enough to defeat the Sun Devils 94-82 Sunday on the road.
Dusan Ristic and Gerry Blakes both scored to open the game. Allonzo Trier then got on the board, but Willie Atwood hit a three.
Kadeem Allen and Ristic hit a bucket each as Tra Holder responded with a three. A shot by Trier then gave Arizona a 10-8 lead at the media timeout.
Gabe York scored and Atwood came back with a three-point play. Kaleb Tarczewski got a basket in the lane, but Kodi Justice made a three.
Savon Goodman scored and Mark Tollefsen hit a three. Obinna Oleka then made a three and scored on the offensive glass as Arizona State took a 21-17 lead with 11:52 left in the first half.
Oleka made a three and Trier hit a floater. Blakes responded with four consecutive points and Sean Miller called timeout with the Wildcats down 28-19.
Allen scored and Tollefsen made one of two free-throws. Tarczewski had a three-point play and Ryan Anderson made one of two free-throws.
York hit a three and Tarczewski made two free-throws. Trier also scored, but a turnover and dunk by Blakes ended a 14-0 Arizona run and cut Arizona’s lead to 33-30 with 2:23 left in the first half.
Trier made two free-throws and Ristic scored in the paint. Holder then scored, but Ristic did as well.
Allen got a bucket off a steal and Holder ended the half with a three-point play as Arizona went into the half up 41-35.
Atwood scored to start the half and Trier came back with a three. Blakes and Anderson proceeded to exchange baskets and Jacobsen and Anderson did the same.
Atwood made two free-throws of a technical on Tarczewsi and Jacobsen scored. A layup by Allen then put the Wildcats up 50-45 at the media timeout.
ASU got another basket from Atwood, but Tarczewski made a free-throw and Anderson scored off a rebound as the Wildcats extended their lead to 53-47.
Oleka made two free-throws and York hit a three. Tollefsen and Jacobsen exchanged baskets before another three by York.
Blakes scored, but York hit a three and Tollefsen got a basket off the glass to put Arizona up 66-53 with 8:06 remaining.
Oleka came up with a three-point play, but Parker Jackson-Cartwright made a three. Ristic scored and Holder made two free-throws.
Jackson-Cartwright went one of two from the line and Allen scored off a steal. Holder and Allen then made two free-throws each.
Justice hit a three and was fouled, as he made the ensuing free-throw. Atwood proceeded to make two free-throws and Trier and Oleka exchanged baskets.
Holder got in the lane and scored, cutting Arizona’s lead to 78-70 with 3:10 left in regulation.
Oleka scored and Anderson made one of two from the line. trier then made two free-throws, but a three by Holder kept ASU within 81-75.
York proceeded to make two free-throws, but Holder did also. Bobby Hurley picked up a technical and York made one free-throw.
He was fouled on the play and made one more to give Arizona an eight-point lead. Holder came down and made a layup.
York was fouled again and Hurley got his second technical as York then made four straight free-throws to put the Wildcats up 89-79 and seal the game.
