Arizona moved to 13-1 on the season and opened Pac-12 play with a 94-82 road win over Arizona State.  Here's a closer look at what happened:

Player of the Game:

Gabe York - The senior came up big when Arizona needed him most in the game, including a huge second half effort. York scored 17 of his 22 points in the second half, including several critical free throws down the stretch. The shooting guard also filled in at the point guard slot for parts of the game and led the team with six assists. Additionally, York pulled down five rebounds in the game.

Key Moments:

* After a frenzy of baskets traded by the teams in the first five minutes of the game, Arizona began to cool off, while Arizona State continued to light up the scoreboard. With the game tied at 14, the Sun Devils went on a 14-5 run over the next six minutes to pull ahead by nine in the early going.

* The Wildcats countered with a 14-0 run of their own. Fueled by a three pointer from York, Arizona's defense forced two turnovers and several bad shots from the Sun Devils over the span of six minutes. During the span, the Wildcats hit five of seven free throws and clawed back into the lead.

* Both teams opened the second half trading baskets, similar to the first half, but the tide finally turned with 11 minutes remaining in the game. The Wildcats led by just four before York got hot and hit three long balls in the span of three minutes to take over the game. Mark Tollefsen added two baskets of his own during that time and the Wildcats jumped to a 66-53 lead.

* Late in the game, Arizona State turned on the pressure and made a push to get back into it. Willie Atwood cut the lead down to just six with a monstrous dunk over Ryan Anderson. The game remained close until Arizona State Head Coach Bobby Hurley was given two technical fouls within 15 seconds of each other. York made six of eight free throws during that stretch to pull away.

Stat of the Game:

3 - It wouldn't be a rivalry game if things didn't get heated. Betweeen the two teams, three technical fouls were called. Kaleb Tarczewski was whistled for one shortly after being called for a rebounding foul early in the second half. Hurley was assessed two on back-to-back plays late in the game, but had been working on them the whole day. Late in the first half, the Sun Devils' coach was addressed by an official for his antics, but only given a warning.

Miller Quotable:

“The different seat on the bus now is that he’s a senior leader, and one of our best players,” Miller said of York. “If you just look at what he’s done at Gonzaga and at ASU, not just because he’s making shots but because he’s a better defensive player and gives us our team confidence.”

Wildcat Quotable:

"It's a place the last two years we've lost and that was always in the back of my mind," York said. "It definitely was a fulfilling win."
