Arizona is attempting to close the 2016 recruiting class with a statement and a commitment from Portland (Ore.) Liberty linebacker Kaelin Himphill would only strengthen the class.
Despite entering Himphill’s recruitment late, the Wildcats seems to have a legitimate chance of landing the emerging linebacker.
“There are five schools that are at the top of my list, and then there is everybody else,” Himphill said. “Utah, Utah State, Oregon State, Arizona and San Diego State are the top five. All of them are good schools and not all the way across the country."
The Wildcats' pitch to Himphill is clear.
“Arizona offered me about three weeks ago and since then they’ve talked to me all the time," Himphill said. "They’ve been telling me some pretty exciting things.
"They think that I can be a Scooby Wright type or maybe even better. Arizona produces really good linebackers, so that is a good thing because I know I will get good coaching.”
The uptick in Himphill’s recruitment hasn’t stopped him from working to become a better player.
“I’m lifting hard and getting bigger and stronger then I’m going to do track, which will help me get faster," Himphill said.
“Where I’m going to college is still the biggest thing on my mind. The decision is going to come pretty soon.
"I haven’t taken visits to Arizona and Utah, but I’m going to have both of those visits completed by the end of January and then I will probably sit down with my family and figure things from there.”
