Arizona used a strong second half to lead it over Stanford 71-57 on Thursday night.
Ryan Anderson opened the game with a bucket, but Marcus Allen matched it. Mark Tollefsen then hit a three from the corner and Kaleb Tarczewski made two free-throws.
Gabe York got in the lane for a score and Dorian Pickens answered. A three by Kadeem Allen then put the Wildcats up 12-4 at the media timeout.
Marcus Sheffield made two free-throws and Tollefsen hit another three. Michael Humphrey got on the board to cut Arizona’s lead 15-8 with under 12 minutes left in the half.
York made two free-throws, but Sheffield hit a three. York then hit one of his own and Arizona held a 20-13 lead with 7:38 remaining in the half.
Humphrey scored consecutive baskets and Pickens added two free-throws. Tarczewski then got a three-point play, but Sheffield made a three.
Two free-throws by Tarczewski proceeded to put Arizona up 25-22 with about three minutes left in the half.
Marcus Allen scored and York responded with a three. Pickens then made a jumper and Ryan Anderson went one of two from the line.
Pickens made a three and Allen came back with a layup. Marcus Allen was then fouled and made one free-throw as Arizona led 31-30 at the half.
Anderson made two free-throws and Humphrey made one. Stanford then got a shot by Humphrey, but Anderson matched it.
Dusan Ristic scored twice at the line and followed with a bucket to give the Wildcats a 39-33 with 16:12 left in the second half.
Rosco Allen made a free-throw for his first point of the game and Grant Verhoeven got two consecutive three-point plays.
Tollefsen then scored and Tarczewski did as well to put Arizona up 43-40 with 11:48 remaining in the half.
Anderson had a three-point play and York added a layup and three to extend the Wildcats’ lead to 51-40 with 8:14 to go.
Pickens made two free-throws and Tollefsen hit a shot. Humphrey proceeded to make two from the line, but Allen hit a three.
Anderson scored and Sheffield came up with a three-point play. York and Rosco Allen exchanged threes before York made a free-throw and Anderson scored to give Arizona a 64-50 lead with 3:56 left.
Tarczewski made two free-throws and Sheffield responded with two straight buckets. Allen then made one of two free-throws as Arizona kept a 13-point lead with two minutes left.
