Arizona fell short at California 74-73 on Saturday night.
Ivan Rabb and Kaleb Tarczewski exchanged baskets to start the game. Jabari Bird came back with a three-point play, but Ryan Anderson scored two consecutive baskets.
Anderson made one of two free-throws and Jordan Mathews got on the board. Anderson then scored again before Sam Singer and Parker Jackson-Cartwright exchanged buckets as Arizona led 11-9 at the media timeout.
Kadeem Allen and Kameron Rooks both scored before Dusan Ristic did as well. A three by Jordan Mathews then forced Sean Miller to call timeout with the Wildcats up 15-14.
Anderson made one free-throw and added a basket soon after. Jaylen Brown got in the lane, but Gabe York and Tarczewski scored to put Arizona up 22-16 with 7:17 left in the first half.
Singer and Allen exchanged baskets before Rabb and Justin Simon did as well. Rooks scored off the glass, but Ristic made two free-throws.
Bird and Allen both scored as Arizona kept a 30-24 lead with 3:24 left in the first half.
Brown made two free-throws, but York got in the lane and scored. Brown then made two more from the line and followed with a basket.
Anderson got a dunk, but Singer hit a jumper. A three by York and Mathews then put Arizona up 37-35 at halftime.
Cal started the second half with a three from Bird and Miller called timeout after two free-throws from Brown out the Wildcats down 40-37.
Bird made a three, but York answered with a three-point play. Brown then scored and Mathews hit a three from the corner.
Ristic stopped the bleeding, but Mathews hit another three. Jackson-Cartwright made two free-throws and Allen made a three from the corner.
A shot by Anderson then cut the Cal lead to 51-49 with just under 12 minutes remaining.
Mathews and Rabb scored as Brown added another. Ristic made two from the line, but Mathews hit a three.
Ristic then made a shot and Anderson two free-throws to pull the Wildcats to within 60-55 with over seven minutes left.
Rabb and York both scored and Tarczewski made two free-throws. Mathews made two as well before Tollefsen hit a three to cut the lead down to two with under five minutes left.
Mathews scored and Tarczewski hit two from the line. Allen got a bucket, but Mathews made a three.
Tarczewski scored, but Rabb made two free-throws the next time down court. Mathews made a shot to put Cal up five with 1:06 remaining.
York made a three and Allen scored to tie the game 15 seconds later. Brown was fouled with 18 seconds left and made one free-throw.
York was unable to get off a good shot and the Golden Bears won the game.
