Arizona got an official visit this past weekend from 6-foot-2, 208-pound Hillsboro (Ore.) linebacker Kaelin Himphill and he came away impressed.
“The visit was really good,” Himphill said. “I enjoyed meeting the coaches and players and spending the time in Tucson.
“My host was Kahi Neves. It was cool because he just enrolled two weeks ago, but I got to meet all the players.”
While on the visit, Himphill got the opportunity to sit down with the coaching staff.
“I sat down at breakfast with Coach Rodriguez and had dinner with Coach Yates,” Himphill said. “They are going to run a lot of different fronts because they are going to be seeing a lot of different types of offense.
“I am excited to see what they are going to be running. It will be a three down front a lot and then a four down front also. There is going to be a lot to learn, but it is going to be awesome.”
Like most linebackers Arizona is recruiting, the pitch is clear.
“They see me as the Mike linebacker in the middle, so they want me to replace Scooby kind of,” Himphill said. “Where he played, they want me in that role, so I am excited.”
Himphill’s recruitment has picked up since it Oregon State gave him an ultimatum.
“It is kind of like a snowball,” he said. “It was kind of at a lull, but it is getting bigger and bigger.
“I appreciate it and I appreciate any coach that is recruiting me and wants me to be a part of their program.”
There is still one more visit for the three-star before he makes his decision.
“I have one more official to take,” he said. “It will be between Utah, Colorado, Cal, and West Virginia. After that I will be able to make my decision.”
