Sean Miller recognizes that Oregon presents a major challenge on Thursday and a large part of that is the play of newcomer Chris Boucher.
“I think Boucher is the best first year player in our conference,” Miller said. “You can make the case him and Ryan Anderson are. Their team has had success, both of the guys, but statistically they are able to back up my claim.
“I look at how he performed against UCLA and USC, we played both and know the frontline and talent level of both, he was dominant.
“His shot blocking, his skill level, his rebounding. He is a really terrific player and somebody I think is a big reason why Oregon is having the season they’re having.”
Miller speaks with confidence when he states that he believes the Ducks are the team to beat.
“I believe Oregon is the best team in our league,” he said. “Dana Altman is one of the great coaches in college basketball.
“Every team he has coached at Oregon since he has been in our conference always seems to reach their potential or overachieve.”
Oregon’s effort level has been consistent this season and it is something that the Wildcats are going to have to match.
“Can you play hard yourself because if you can’t, especially this year, it is difficult because they have some pretty good players,” Miller said.
“Tyler Dorsey as a freshman is similar to Allonzo Trier for us that as a young player is capable of scoring big and is an elite shooter.
“You look at their point guard and his assist to turnover ratio is incredible. You mix in the two newcomers and the returning players that were a part of last year’s team and they have an outstanding team.”
