Late Arizona run helps defeat Oregon State

Arizona defeated Oregon State on Saturday night. Read on for the latest.

It didn't look pretty at times, but a second half run led Arizona over Oregon State 80-63 Saturday night at McKale.

Kaleb Tarczewski scored to open the game and Gary Payton III matched it. Drew Eubanks then scored, but Gabe York made a three.

Payton III scored again before Mark Tollefsen made a three. York and Anderson then scored to force a timeout with the Wildcats up 12-6. 

Tarczewski made a shot out of the timeout, but Tres Tinkle made a three. A three by Langston Morris-Walker then cut Arizona’s lead to 14-12 with 11:56 left in the first half. 

Tinkle made two free-throws and Stephen Thompson scored. Kadeem Allen made one of two free-throws, but Tinkle scored again.

York made a three and Dusan Ristic hit a free-throw. Tinkle and Anderson exchanged buckets, but York and Parker Jackson-Cartwright both made threes.

Eubanks then scored and York and Olaf Schaftenaar exchanged threes. A bucket by Ristic then put Arizona up 32-25 with over four minutes left in the half. 

Payton scored, as did Anderson. Schaftenaar then made the last bucket of the half, as a three cut Arizona’s lead to 34-30. 

Tollefsen and Eubanks exchanged baskets. Allen made a shot, but Schaftenaar hit a three. Tarczewski made two free-throws and Payton responded with a three of his own.

Anderson got a three-point play followed by two free-throws from Tinkle. Anderson scored again and York added a basket. 

Schaftenaar and Tarczewski proceeded to exchange buckets as Arizona led 49-42 with 14:42 left. 

Tinkle made a shot out of the timeout and then hit an open three to cut the lead to 49-47 and force Sean Miller to call timeout. 

Ristic scored, as did Morris-Walker. York then hit a three and Allen made two free-throws. A steal and layup by Jackson-Cartwright proceeded to put the Wildcats up 58-49 with under nine minutes to go. 

Jackson-Cartwright made a three and Thompson matched it. Anderson then scored, but Schaftenaar made another three.

A three by York then gave Arizona a 66-55 lead with 6:33 remaining. Out of the timeout, Jackson-Cartwright got a layup and’ Tollefsen to dunk as Oregon State called yet another timeout.

Thompson scored out of the timeout, but Ristic matched him. Daniel Gomis then got on the board and Thompson added another basket.

However, a shot by Tollefsen put Arizona up 74-61 with about 1:30 remaining.
