Although he was committed to Florida Atlantic, 6-foot-4, 215-pound Lakeland (Fla.) Kathleen linebacker Francisco Nelson had a feeling he would wind up a Wildcat.
“I told my family that if everything went well and nobody was rushing me on to commit on my visit, I would,” Nelson said.
There was no pressure on Nelson to make a decision, but he saw enough at Arizona to commit to the Wildcats.
“Arizona was a place that had a very beautiful atmosphere,” Nelson said. “It is a nice campus and everything was not too far.
“I felt that if I was going to leave home to go to school, Arizona was the right place for me.”
It also helps that Nelson was able to quickly build a relationship with the coaching staff.
“The two coaches who made big impact on me were Coach Addae and Yates, but really all the coaches,” he said.
“They were real and honest with me and I respected them a lot. It shocked me how well I got along with them and how honest they were.”
Nelson plays defensive end in high school, but Arizona has a different plan for him.
“I will actually be a linebacker for Arizona,” Nelson said. “I will help them there because last year they did not have enough depth and they need more guys, bigger guys.”
