Arizona survives USC surge

Arizona survived a USC rally to defeat the Trojans Sunday night. Read on for a complete recap.

Arizona survived a second half rally by USC to defeat the Trojans 86-78 Sunday night at McKale.

Ryan Anderson and Allonzo Trier scored to start the game as another bucket by Anderson extended the lead.

Julian Jacobs then put Arizona on the board and Anderson scored again. Gabe York added a three-point play before a basket by Jordan McLaughlin cut Arizona’s lead to 11-8 at the media timeout. 

Dusan Ristic scored and Nikola Jovanovic hit a three. Ristic then got a three-point play and Kaleb Tarczewski scored.

Katin Reinhardt made a three before Tarczewski scored again. Anderson and Reinhardt exchanged baskets, as Stewart and Tollefsen did the same.

A dunk by Ristic forced Andy Enfield to call timeout with the Wildcats up 26-18 with 11:05 left in the first half. 

Malik Martin scored in the lane, but York responded with a three and Tollefsen scored to put Arizona ahead 11.

Boatwright and Tollefsen exchanged baskets, but a three by Jackson-Cartwright forced another timeout with the Wildcats up 36-22 with 6:14 remaining in the half. 

Kadeem Allen and Jacobs both scored, but a three by Tollefsen continued to build Arizona’s lead. 

Tollefsen scored and Boatwright had two consecutive buckets. York then hit a three and a basket by McLaughlin put Arizona’s lead at 46-30 at halftime. 

Jacobs and Jovanovic scored to begin the second half and Trier made two free-throws soon after. 

Reinhardt got a bucket, but Trier responded with a three-point play. Jackson-Cartwright then made a three and McLaughlin and Anderson exchanged baskets.

A three by Reinhardt proceeded to cut Arizona’s lead to 56-41 at the media timeout. 

Stewart and York exchanged threes and Metu went one of two at the line. Anderson then hit two free-throws, but Stewart got a bucket.

McLaughlin and York both hit threes before a basket by Stewart cut Arizona’s lead to 64-52 with 11:30 left.

Boatwright and McLaughlin both hit threes before Trier got in the lane and scored. After a basket by Jovanovic, Trier made two free-throws. 

However, a basket by Jacobs cut the Arizona lead to 68-62 with 7:53 remaining. 

Boatwright made a three and Tollefsen scored. McLaughlin hit a three of his own and Ristic responded with two free-throws.

Jacobs then made one from the line and Tarczewski hit two. A three from Trier proceeded to put Arizona up 77-69 with a little over four minutes left.

Allen made a basket and Jovanovic made two at the line. Boatwright made one of two free-throws soon after, but a shot by York and two free-throws by Anderson put the Wildcats up 83-72 with under a minute left.
