Wildcats fall short at Utah

Arizona lost to Utah 70-64 on Saturday. Read on for a complete recap.

Despite being down double digits at halftime, Arizona made a run and took the lead in the second. However, the run fell short and Utah won 70-64 in Salt Lake City on Saturday.

Jakob Poeltl and Ryan Anderson scored to open up the game and Jordan Loveridge hit a jumper.

Allonzo Trier then made a three and Lorenzo Bonam scored. Anderson and Kyle Kuzma exchanged baskets before a hoop by Anderson put Arizona up 9-8 at the media timeout. 

Poeltl and Trier exchanged baskets and Bonam scored five consecutive points. Dusan Ristic then got on the board, but Kuzma made a three to put Utah up 18-13 with 11:38 left in the half.

Bonam scored and Anderson made one of two from the line. Trier then made two free-throws and Kaleb Tarczewski got on the board.

Poeltl made a free-throw and Trier did as well. Dakarai Tucker and Brekkott Chapman scored their first points of the game to put Utah 25-19 with over eight minutes left in the half. 

Poeltl scored and Tarczewski made one free-throw. Kadeem Allen and Brandon Taylor exchanged buckets before Chapman scored.

Trier made a three, but Chris Reyes got a three-point play and Utah’s lead held at nine. 

Taylor and York exchanged baskets before Poeltl scored. Tollefsen and Chapman then did the same and Utah went into the half up 40-29. 

Trier scored to start the half, but Taylor made a three. Trier responded with a three of his own and Taylor scored off a steal.

Chance Comanche scored his first points of the game and Allen and Tarczewski scored to cut the lead to 45-40 and force a timeout less than four minutes into the half. 

Trier scored and Tarczewski did as well. York made a jumper and then hit a three after a bucket by Poeltl.

However, Taylor and Loveridge hit consecutive threes. Anderson then got a dunk and cut Utah’s lead to 53-51 with 11:27 remaining. 

Loveridge scored, but a bucket by Allen and Trier tied the game at 55 with 7:28 left in regulation. 

Comanche scored, as did Tarczewski. Loveridge responded with a three-point play and Taylor then hit a three to put the Utes up 61-59 with 4:56 left. 

Trier responded with a three-point play and Poeltl scored to put Utah back up two. Anderson made two free-throws, but Bonam got to the rim and Poeltl made a free-throw to put the Utes up 66-64 with 1:20 left. 

Arizona wouldn’t score again and Taylor added a three as the Utes broke their losing streak against Arizona.
