Wichita State was simply the better team on Thursday, as it eliminated Arizona with a 65-55 victory.
Allonzo Trier put Arizona on the board and Ron Baker came right back and scored. Fred VanVleet and Shaquille Morris then got a bucket each, but Kadeem Allen made a three. Ryan Anderson proceeded to scored and Arizona took a 7-6 lead at the media timeout.
VanVleet scored and Connor Frankamp did as well. A shot by Markis McDuffie proceeded to put the Shockers up 12-7 with 10:56 left in the half.
Tarczewski made a free-throw, but Frankamp made another three. Tarczewski again only made one from the line and a jumper by Morris and VanVleet put Wichita State up 19-9.
Gabe York and Allonzo Trier both hit a three, but VanVleet and Baker scored. Tarczewski made two free-throws and Baker responded with a three.
Trier proceeded to score, but McDuffie made a free-throw and VanVleet scored again. McDuffie got a bucket and the Shockers went into halftime up 31-19.
Tarczewski started the half with a basket, but Baker and Zach Brown scored. VanVleet then made two free-throws and a shot by Anderson cut the lead to 37-23 at the media timeout.
Baker and York exchanged baskets before Rashard Kelly made two free-throws. McDuffie and Parker Jackson-Cartwright both scored and Wichita State took a 43-27 lead with 13:50 left.
Morris added a three-point play and Anderson scored. Frankamp hit a three and added two free-throws before Baker scored to put the Shockers up 53-29.
Allen scored and Jackson-Cartwright made a three. Allen then made a free-throw and York hit a three of his own.
A dunk by Anderson proceeded to cut the lead to 53-40 with just under eight minutes left. Anton Grady then hit two straight buckets and that was it for the Wildcats.
