Athletic, with position flexibility, Eugene (Ore.) Sheldon 2017 offensive lineman Cory Shear fits the new profile of the offensive lineman the new Arizona coaching staff is recruiting.
“I’m 6-4 right now, so teams seem to see me at some other positions besides tackle,” Shear said. “I’ve heard guard, center or even tight end. My passion is along the offensive line, so I would prefer to play there if possible.
"I think my mentality is a natural fit there and I’ve learned to play and study different positions. It’s a complicated process, so I don’t really want to have to start over.
“I hear different things from different coaches on what my strengths are, but the one thing I hear more than anything is that I move really well for a guy my size.”
Arizona is one of the numerous schools interested.
“I was at Arizona earlier this week and they offered me a scholarship after everything was done," Shear said. "Coach Rodriguez came up to me and told me he thought that I was a Pac 12 caliber player and he would like to be my coach.
"The entire visit went great. I got to sit in on film study too and just watch everything. It was fun.”
Shear figures to receive more scholarship offers in the near future.
“The offers I have right now are Hawaii, Nevada, Ohio, Idaho, Toledo, Central Michigan and the recent Arizona offer," he said. "“I’m going to visit San Diego State then Oregon State and Oregon over the coming weeks.”
