As numerous players declare for the NBA Draft each day to test the waters, Allonzo Trier decided to take a different approach.
“I’m an all-in type of person,” Trier said. “If I decide to do something, I’m gonna have to go all in. I didn’t want to be one foot out the door, one foot in with this university and this basketball team.”
Trier realizes that he has an opportunity to help Arizona immensely next season and chose to be a complete part of that right away instead of playing out the draft process until late May.
"I understood that the process of being great for this program starts now and I didn’t want to be halfway with this team,” he said.
“I wanted to show I was going to be dedicated and give my all to this team and start locking arms with these guys and really start working toward being a great year.”
In an interesting turn of events, Sean Miller actually encouraged Trier to test the waters.
“I did it so he could learn more about where he stood and have the opportunity to utilize that system to return back if he so chooses,” Miller said.
“If he really played well and got quality feedback, then he would have the opportunity to leave and follow his dream.”
As happy as Miller is, Trier’s teammates are just as excited for his return.
“Allonzo’s a great player, a good guy to play with, so with him coming back, that will add a lot of depth to our team, and give us a better feeling from last year’s team,” Kadeem Allen said.
“We have a lot of guys coming back and lost five. With Allonzo coming back and myself and the leaders on the team, I feel we can push the guys and get better every day.”
