Las Vegas Bishop Gorman wing Chuck O'Bannon Jr. recently cut his list to eight and the Wildcats were one of the schools to make the cut.
When asked what separated those schools from the others, O’cannon’s answer was straight forward.
“Communication,” O’Bannon said. “It’s really as simple as that.”
Arizona is one of O’Bannon’s finalists due in large part to the relationship Sean Miller has been able to build with the four-star prospect.
“I have always been a big fan of Arizona and what Coach Miller has going on over there,” O’Bannon said. “I am looking forward to visiting.
“They like my aggressiveness for offense and my length for defense, so they say I would be a perfect fit for what they like to do on both sides of the ball.”
O’Bannon isn’t sure which of his eight finalists will get visits, but knows what he will look at once he does decide where he will go.
“I don’t have any visits planned, but I know I want to take some,” he said. “I will look at how I fit in and if I can see myself being comfortable there for the next four years.”
The 6-foot-5, 195-pound O’Bannon is hearing similar pitches from the schools recruiting him, but is confident he will be able to separate his top school from the pack.
“I am good at judging what is real or not, like if a coach is saying something just to say it or if he truly means it,” he said.
For now, O’Bannon is focused on finishing out summer AAU on a high note.
“The summer is going well,” he said. “I am trying to get through some minor injuries I have going on, but other than that it’s been fine.
“I haven’t been playing as well as I want to be playing at, but I still have time to get better and get it going again.”
